GVO partnered with Bakline to handle end-to-end video production for their Hop to Hops Challenge: Canal Classic, a unique 5K prediction race taking runners over five bridges spanning the Gowanus Canal. Instead of focusing solely on who crosses the line first, the event is built around prediction accuracy, camaraderie, and an electric post-race celebration at Other Half Brewing. We led creative planning, location scouting, and shot list development, mapping out strategic angles across Gowanus to capture the high-motion course without disrupting the flow of the runners.

Because a live, moving through Brooklyn streets and bridges leaves zero room for do-overs, our team designed an agile multi-camera and multi-station strategy during pre-production. We scouted key Gowanus checkpoints and mapped out a precise shot list that let us capture the action natively.

To stay ahead of the pack, our team used bikes to maneuver around the course and reach pre-planned stations along the route. For the footage itself, we chose an agile setup by combining drone aerials, 360 cameras, and mobile iPhone units so we could capture every dynamic moment from every angle.

The energy was unmatched, and biking around to stay ahead meant our team was feeling the exact same adrenaline as the runners. On the course, everyone was cheering each other on, sharing laughs, and pushing through the route together.

In post-production, Michael Boczon edited the footage into a fast-paced :30 spot designed to capture the authentic pulse of NYC run culture. By blending dynamic, on-the-move bridge crossings with real candid moments between runners, the final edit delivers a high-impact promo asset that highlights both their brand style and their standout event experience.
